Along with being a Suzuki Student in her youth and a Suzuki
teacher for 20 years, Denice is also the President of the Colorado Old
Time Fiddlers Association. As such,
Denice has organized the association by recruiting parents of her students to serve and
volunteer. This year COTFA has taken on the bold endeavor of presenting the first
Certified Fiddle contest in Colorado, The Colorado Rocky Mountain
Fiddle Championships. Denice's Program has 70 students enrolled 40 of which are her own students. Included in her program is Suzuki Teacher Ricky Selman. Denice is very active in fiddling and has many students who place in the top 5 - 20 at The National Fiddle Championships. As a 1st generation US Suzuki student,Learning under the tutelage of Shirleen McMicheal and John Kendall Denice received most of her training informally, as few organized teaching programs were available to her. She likes to refer to her training as being obtained through the school of "hard knocks". Denice has received the same type of training in fiddling although she does hold the distinction of being awarded a Master Apprentice grant through the National Endowment for the Arts. Denice is also a past two time Colorado State Adult Fiddle Champion "Teaching is my passion, always has been" |

Karen Pfister - Tampa Florida ![]() Karen teaches Suzuki violin. |
I have my master's in violin performance and string pedagogy
from University of Oregon School of Music..there I studied suzuki pedagogy with Shelley
Rich. I have been teaching Suzuki for only 3 years. I have summer training through book 3, and plan to go every summer I love it so much! I teach Suzuki Violin at University of South Florida where I have 12 students. I also teach public elementary and middle school strings in Hillsborough County (Tampa). I am desperately trying to start a Suzuki Program at Tampa Downtown Partnership elementary school. All of the students that go there have parents that work in the city so they are close by so I am trying my hardest to make it happen but it is my first year teaching in public school so hopefully I make it out alive at the end of the year! |

Maxine Komlos,
nee Moller was born in New Zealand in 1939. Her parents were of Scandinavian
extraction. She studied violin at the Auckland University and in 1960 - 1 at the Adelaide
University. She married violist Peter Komlos. The pair played in orchestras in Tasmania,
Germany and England. After their return to Tasmania in 1970 Peter was awarded a Churchill
